About the Lukas-cooperation PDF Print E-mail

Lukas is a cooperation between the libraries in the municipals Raseborg, Hangö, Ingå and Sjundeå as well as higher vocational education Novia’s library and vocational education Axxell’s library.

The Lukas cooperation is an excellent example on how individual communities can multiply their resources, increase service levels and developing libraries in the region. The Lukas-libraries together have been able to develop a library service that would’ve been difficult for the individual library to achieve: the computerization of libraries, common database, a library card that works in the whole region and the collective transport of materials ie. reserved and the returned items are transported between the main libraries every week.

The Lukas municipals has existed for almost 20 years and is proof that a successful collaboration over the West Nyland’s boundaries is possible. The merging of Ekenäs, Karis and Pojo year 2009 led to these communities forming a library system called Raseborg’s public library. Practically this means that the six Lukas libraries became four. The merging does not mean that the cooperation between the other Lukas libraries in Hangö, Ingå and Sjundeå decreases. Quite the contrary, the cooperation and development of library services over the boundaries is perhaps more important than ever.
